Last weekend, my mom, sister, and I had the pleasure of throwing a baby shower for my youngest sister and first-time mama-to-be.
I started the planning and searching a couple of months ago when I jumped online to investigate baby shower invitation options. I knew I wanted something bright, fun, modern, and not overly girly. I wasn't sure what I'd find out there, but I knew the invitations would set the tone and design scheme for the whole shower, so it was a no brainer to start there. It took me all of five minutes to find these, designed by Dwell Studio for Tiny Prints.
I was done. Not only did they fit all the descriptors I had in mind, they were beyond perfect. You see, my sister's nickname when she was younger was Baby Love. She kind of chose it herself when she learned the words (Well, the chorus at least.) to "Baby Love" by the Supremes.
To keep things fun and festive but decidedly not fussy, I made a cute little wreath and placed some balloons at the front door. I wanted the guests to get the mood from the start. Once inside, they saw the one and only game we played--a board with pictures of my sister at different ages. Next to the board were some numbered sheets of paper in coordinating colors and a Mason jar of pencils for guests to write their guesses. If you're looking for a shower game, I highly recommend this one. One of my best friend's mom did the game for her shower and it was perfect. It's fun, simple, and it doesn't have to be done at the same time, so it doesn't stop the natural flow of the shower. Guests can just walk over to the board at any time and write down their answers.
In the main room, all the goodies were on the same table. I'd made a festive banner with the words "Baby Love" on it to give the table a little pizzazz. My mom bought the most gorgeous flowers--yellow, light pink, hot pink, and salmon-colored roses--that were the perfect addition to the table. Because the shower was small and in the middle of the afternoon, we kept the food simple with fruit skewers, strawberry lemonade cupcakes, orangeade (a family favorite requested by the guest of honor), and water bottles with personalized labels my mom designed and printed up. We kept the decorations simple because the shower was pretty much contained to the front room of the house. Still, we wanted things to be perfect. I made some tissue poms to hang in a nook behind the table and we tied the Mason jars, which we used as glasses for the orangeade, with hot pink and white baker's twine for a festive touch. For the perfect little feminine finishing touches, we placed various vases and Mason jars (tied with more baker's twine, of course) around the house.
Every last details turned out liked I'd hoped. My sisters, mom, and I had a wonderful, lovely, girly day I hope we'll all remember for years to come. I can't wait to tell my niece about it one day.
